TELL YOUR STORY TO THE LIBRARY OF CONGRESS

Dedicated to collecting the firs-hand accounts of all veterans from WWI to present day, the Library of Congress' Veterans History Project (VHP) was created to preserve the memories of wartime veterans. VHP makes those personal accounts accessible to the public, which allows future generations to hear directly from veterans & better understand a veteran's service.

Established in 2000, VHP has more than 105,000 collections already archived & still is accepting new collection every day. VHP Director Karen Lloyd, a retired Colonel who served 28 years in the Army, said VHP is proud of that number.

We are working with the VHP & encouraging members to reach out to veterans within their own community, to listening to their stories & donate their work to their work to the Library of Congress.

FOLLOW THE 30-20-10 RULE

To ensure a collection meets requirements, contributor are asked to send:

• At least a 30-minute or longer recorded interview &/or 
• At least a 20-page memoir &/or
• At least 10 original photographs, letters, military documents or pieces of two dimensional artwork.

VHP request collections be sent via FedEx or UPS because U.S. postal service mail is subject to security screening & may cause damage to the collection

If you live in the DC area you may drop off a collection in person at:

Those who wish to view a collection in person may call 202.707.4916 or email vohp@loc.gov. Appointments must be made 10 working days, or two weeks in advance.
