Mt. Moriah Lodge Honors U.S. Navy’s 249th Birthday, Raises Funds for Tun Legacy Foundation

Murfreesboro, TN

On October 13, 2024, the Mt. Moriah #18 F & AM Lodge hosted a distinguished gathering to commemorate the 249th anniversary of the U.S. Navy. The event, which also served as a fundraiser for the Tun Tavern Legacy Foundation, was marked by camaraderie, patriotism, and a shared commitment to naval heritage.

The evening commenced with a formal presentation of colors by the esteemed Blackman High School JROTC. A sumptuous dinner, catered by Mission BBQ Murfreesboro was provided. A traditional Navy birthday cake-cutting ceremony, involving the oldest and youngest sailors present, added a touch of maritime tradition to the festivities.

Distinguished guests, including retired Navy and Marine Corps officers, graced the occasion with their presence. Retired Senior Chief Alan Brandt, USN, Colonel Brian Harvey, USMC, Colonel Ken Hopper, USMC, and Worshipful Master Collier Hopson shared inspiring anecdotes and insights into the rich history and enduring legacy of the U.S. Navy.

The event culminated in a successful fundraising effort for the Tun Tavern Legacy Foundation, raising $1,450 in just 2.5 hours. The funds will be utilized to support the restoration and preservation of the historic Tun Tavern, the birthplace of the U.S. Navy.

“We are immensely proud to have hosted this event and to have contributed to the preservation of our naval heritage,” said Andrew Farrer, coordinator of the event. “The overwhelming support from our community underscores the deep-rooted respect and admiration for the U.S. Navy.”
