The Marine Corps Reserve Association and the Marine Corps University are in the stages of creating the MOU. The current plan is to keep this at the Major and above level, which will make it available to the Command and Staff College and the Marine Corps War College. It is felt, that since all services send reserve officers to the university. The current plan is to focus upon Joint Forces reserve topics. The final MOU is making it's way through the staffing process at MCU & MCRA. As soon as it is finalized we will make a more formal announcement. We plan to start this for academic year 2018/19. The name of the award has yet to be named, if you have an idea of who this should be named after, send the name with justification to USMCRA@USMCRA.ORG.

The Association was recently contacted by Col Jim Hendrickson, USAFR (Ret). He is an advocate for the military and veteran students in higher education. While everyone can enthusiastically agree that transfer credits from military training and prior college continue to be a drain on financial resources and lost time there has still not been a comprehensive process created to address this issue.  Credit transfer is still left to the gaining school and the individual student to resolve.  His non-profit will give military students the leverage and tools that are critical to positively impact the interaction and ensure previously earned credits are fully awarded. If you have taken college courses & never finished that degree or if you have attended military education & not received college credit I recommended you contact OPERATION GRADUATE to help you get that college degree.

The MCRA held it's 2017 Annual Conference in New Orleans on 8-9 September. It was a tremendous event. Your Association began to return back to the days gone by. Thursday began with a trip to the WW II museum. A fascinating place if you have been unable to attend in person. That evening a reception was held in the Association's reception room. Many of the great leaders of the Association and Marine Corps Reserve were in attendance. Some of those that attended included Major Generals Al Harvey and Larry Taylor.

Friday morning we received a valuable/informative Ethics brief from MajGen Kevin Kuklok USMCR (Ret), click here to review his brief. We visited the New Orleans Maritime Military Academy, founded by the former Commander, MFR LtGen David Mize. The highlight of Friday was a personal brief on the status of the Marine Corps Reserve by the Commander, LtGen Rex McMillian; Commanding General 4th MARDIV, MajGen Burke Whitman; and 4th FORCES HEADQUARTERS GROUP, BGen Michael Fahey. Friday afternoon the Association sponsored a PME event for the Marines. The topic of discussion was "The Creation of MFR." This event was attended by over 400 active duty & reserve personnel. A very lively discussion was lead by MajGens James Livingston, Larry Taylor, and Al Harvey.

Saturday was full. We received a brief from JT Allen on "Operation Graduate"; a legislative update from Col Frank Wickersham; and a communication update from our Director of Communications Dean Castaldo. We then got down to business by electing new officers. Those elected include: VP, MEMBERSHIP - Tom Hazlett, MSgt USMC (Ret); Secretary - Sander Snowden, LtCol USMCR; reelected as STAFF JUDGE ADVOCATE - Charlie Allen, LtCol, USMCR (Ret); SPECIAL ADVISORS: Dave Leighton, USMCR (Ret), Donnie Boyer, SgtMaj USMCR (Ret), and Joe Staudt, SgtMaj USMCR (Ret). In addition to these officers the President appointed special advisors, Legislative Affairs - Frank Wickersham, Col USMCR (Ret); 6th District - Adam Love, Maj USMC (Ret); 8th District - Bill Lednicky, Capt USMCR (Ret); Michael Elenitsky, CWO5 USMCR (Ret). The purpose of these Regional Advisors will be to serve as a conduit to those members and Reserve units within their respective Districts. There were a number of new initiatives passed by the board and a budget of $48,850 was also approved.

A full report on the meeting will be mailed out to membership.
