    We urge you to contact your Senators to support the current NDAA that is being debated in Congress.  Some key points you need to be made aware of:

    1. Sen. Reid's amendment to ease compensation inequities for disabled military retirees

    2. Sen. Rubio's amendment to provide service members the same pay raise as the average American's

    3. Sen. Murkowski's and Sen. Collins' amendments to prevent inequitable cuts to housing allowances

    4. Sen. Casey's and Sen. Moran's amendment to help with military spouses' move-related re-licensure or recertification costs.

    Retired LtGen Jack Bergman, former Commander MFR and past National President of the MCRA, has decided to enter politics!  He is pursuing the Republican nomination in northern Michigan’s First Congressional District after securing 2,000 petition signatures to place his name on the August primary ballot.     On 17 April, ColBrad James was promotedto the rank of Brigadier General by LtGen Rex McMillian, Commander, MFR.

    BGen James' next duty will be to serve as the Commanding General, 4th Marine Aircraft Wing. Congratulations BGen James!

    The MCRA would like to announce the recentbequest  from the estate of long time MCROA/MCRA life member Col Betty Lee Raymer USMCR (Ret), who peacefully passed away on 24 Feb 2016 in Prescott, CA.


    She was born in Washington, DC and was raised in Cottonwood, ID, where she  graduated of the University of Idaho. Upon graduation she was commissioned in the Marine Corps Reserve and rose to the rank of Colonel.  Although not married, she is survived by many cousins.  Her bequest is a testament to her dedication and commitment in helping ensure the success of this organization.  To that end, the funds from the estate were distributed between the MCRA Life Trust, the MCRA Education Trust and the MCRA.  Semper Fidelis!!!

    Retired LtGen Jack Bergman, former Commander MFR and past National President of the MCRA, has decided to enter politics! He is pursuing the Republican nomination in northern Michigan’s First Congressional District after securing 2,000 petition signatures to place his name on the August primary ballot.


    “I felt it was time for me to step up and put some rudder into this ship known as the United States and put it back on course,” hetoldtheDetroit NewsIn February, hetoldtheDetroit Newsthat he intended to run for the seat as a fiscal conservative “who emphasizes education and using the Constitution as the model for developing “good policies and programs that work. He will likely face challenges from Michigan state Sen. Tom Casperson and former state Sen, Jason Allen. 

    “Marines don’t come to just kind of finish second,” he said. “Marines come to win.”  Bergman is pivoting himself as a political outsider who has dedicated his life to serving the country, vowing in a statement that he would offer an alternative to well-connected politicians embedded in Washington.

    “Hard work and commitment to being exceptional made the United States the envy of the world, but today career politicians run for Congress simply because they want a raise,” he said.

    On 12 April, SECNAV Ray Mabus addressed an audience at MCB Camp Pendleton.  Marine Corps leaders had sought to keep certain infantry and combat jobs closed to women, citing studies showing combined-gender units are not as effective as male-only units. Defense Secretary Ash Carter overruled them in December, ordering all positions open to women. Since then, the military services have put together plans outlining how they will integrate women into male-only units.  To read the full story,click here.

    Marine Administrative Message 209/16 provides guidance for the use of VA disability ratings for Reserve Marines.  The purpose is to provide awareness to commanders of VA disability ratings to ensure military duties are not assigned that may inadvertently impede VA health care efforts of cause health and safety concerns for any Marine.

    VA ratings will not be solely used to disqualify Marines from unit affiliation. In addition, units will not be able to request Reserve Marines who are eligible for VA benefits to forego VA health care in order to serve in the Ready Reserve. For More information MARADMIN  209/16.

    The House Armed Services Committee on Wednesday approved by a narrow margin an amendment to a defense bill to require women to register for the draft.

    Rep. Duncan Hunter, a Republican from California, proposed the amendment to lift the restriction on women registering for the selective service at a committee-wide mark-up session ofthe proposed fiscal 2017 National Defense Authorization Act.

    "Here is why I think this is important; it doesn't matter in this debate whether you think women should be in the infantry or be in special operations," Hunter said during the session on Wednesday night. "I personally don't. If we had that vote in committee today I would vote against women being in infantry and special operations.  To read full story clickhere
