The Association Steps Up to Support "Carlos" Company, 1/23

Corpus Christi, TX

The Association's mission is "To be the premier support organization for the Marine Corps Reserve," and recently, we lived up to that mission in a big way, answering a unique call for assistance from "Carlos" Company, 1/23 out of Corpus Christi, TX.

"Carlos" Company, a "straight-leg" grunt unit, faced a significant challenge: a lack of access to a local pistol range. This deficiency had hampered their training for over two years, impacting their readiness and warfighting capabilities. Sgt. Sam Bravo, the Training NCOIC for "Carlos" Company, recognized the urgency of the situation and reached out to The Association for support.

Sgt. Bravo presented his case to The Association's Board of Directors at their November meeting, explaining the critical need for a local pistol range to facilitate essential training. The Board carefully considered his request, conducting thorough research and deliberation. In December, the decision was made: The Association would fund the materials necessary to bring Sgt. Bravo's vision to life.

Board member Cullen L.L. Chavis spearheaded this important initiative. Over four days, Mr. Chavis, Sgt. Bravo, and the Marines of "Carlos" Company worked tirelessly together, transforming raw materials into a functional pistol range. This collaborative effort exemplifies the dedication and commitment of The Association to supporting the Marine Corps Reserve.

We are incredibly proud of this accomplishment. By directly addressing the identified need of a Reserve unit, The Association has once again demonstrated its commitment to its mission: To be the premier support organization for the Marine Corps Reserve. This new pistol range will ensure that "Carlos" Company is able to conduct the full Combat Pistol Program courses of fire, which have shifted to emphasize speed and decision-making over precision shooting. The Company can now maintain its combat readiness and continue to serve our nation with distinction.
