 Tun Tavern Legacy Foundation Receives $2 Million From Marine Veterans To Rebuild Historic Marine Corps Birthplace In Philadelphia

The Tun Tavern Legacy Foundation, Inc. (Foundation), a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, today announced it has received a $1 million donation from the Timothy T. Day Foundation to support the rebuilding of The Tun™ in Philadelphia. Founded by Marine veteran Tim Day and his wife, Sandy, the Timothy T. Day Foundation benefits organizations and activities that provide support for Marines and the U.S. Marine Corps by preserving and promulgating the history, traditions and culture of the Marine Corps. Established in 1693, The Tun is recognized as the birthplace of the U.S. Marine Corps (1775). A groundbreaking ceremony for The Tun ™ is planned for November 10, 2024, the 249th birthday of the U.S. Marine Corps. This is where we need the help of EVERY Marine! Marine Corps Reserve Association Life Membership Trust Earns $1,702.09 in 2nd Quarter

The Marine Corps Reserve Association Life Membership Trust received $ 1,702.09 in earnings during the second quarter of 2024. This is in contrast with $ 1,677.85 received during the corresponding quarter of 2023, an increase of $ 24.24. The projected total earnings total for 2024 is $ 6,634.15 compared to the total earnings of $ 6,075.57 for 2023. The market value of assets of the Trust as of the end of the day on 30 June 2024 was $ 195,022.16 compared to $ 155,840.38 at the end of 30 June 2023, an increase of $ 39,181.78. A total of $ 1,601.82 was received in Benefactor Dues this quarter.

President Nominates New Marine Corps General Officers

The MCRA is excited to announce that the president has made the following nominations for GENERAL OFFICER in the Marine Corps:

Brig. Gen. Jay M. Bargeron has been nominated for appointment to the rank of major general.  Bargeron is currently serving as president, Marine Corps University, Training and Education Command, Quantico, Virginia.

Brig. Gen. Brian W. Cavanaugh has been nominated for appointment to the rank of major general.  Cavanaugh is currently serving as assistant deputy commandant, programs and resources, Headquarters, U.S. Marine Corps, Washington, D.C.

Brig. Gen. Dimitri Henry has been nominated for appointment to the rank of major general.  Henry is currently serving as director, J-2, U.S. Central Command, MacDill Air Force Base, Florida.

Brig. Gen. Ryan P. Heritage has been nominated for appointment to the rank of major general.  Heritage is currently serving as commanding general, Marine Corps Recruit Depot San Diego; and commanding general, Western Recruiting Region, San Diego, California.

Brig. Gen. Christopher A. McPhillips has been nominated for appointment to the rank of major general.  McPhillips is currently serving as commanding general, 1st Marine Aircraft Wing, Okinawa, Japan.
